Today we spent the day in the countryside hiking around a forest and playing in a stream. Then we had dinner at a little resort place, followed by a Choco-pie and running in the rain.
We got in the car and I asked Captain, "What was the best part of today?"
He said, "Eating."

We're Here!
We left the house at 9:30pm. One of our pastors drove us to the airport. We left at 1:40am. We flew 12+ hours and landed in Beijing. We had a four hour layover. We left at 8:40am from Beijing and arrived in Ulaanbaatar about 10:30am yesterday after a 2 hour flight.
On the way Luc said, "I'm excited to go to Mongolia and see Emee. But, I'm a little scared about the war."
I said, "What war?"
He said, "You know the knights fighting each other."
I said, "What are you talking about?!"
He said, "You know, Mom! Chingis Khan!"
Whew! That's kid is FUNNY! I had to explain to him that that was 800 years ago!

Ready or not, here we come!
Today's the big day.
Meg said this morning: This is the most exciting day of my life!
Captain is just excited that I'm letting him bring "Pooh-the-bear" and his backpack up in the airplane.
Please pray for us. I do not know that I'll be able to update the blog while I'm gone, but check anyway, because you never know!
If you need me you can email me.

A Father's Day Meditation
Pastor Che spoke this morning about glory and honor. As a sort of side bar, he mentioned something that really spoke to me. When Christ was baptized by John the Baptist the Father spoke audibly from heaven, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
I've always thought, "Well, of course. What is there not to be well pleased in in Jesus." I've also always thought that that would be a wonderful thing to hear at the end of my days when I stand before the Lord. One of those things that inspires me to run a good race.
However, when the Father spoke this over the Son, Jesus had not yet performed any miracles (at least none that are recorded). He had not preached any public sermons. His official public ministry had not yet begun.
This speaks something very important: God's approval is not based on my performance.
That's really something to chew on for anyone who has people-pleasing tendencies.
Another good Father's Day Meditation here.
And HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to my dad, who loves me unconditionally and never misses an opportunity to publicly show that he's proud of me. You've been a good example, Dad, of how the Heavenly Father sees me.

Blog o' the Week
This week's blog pick is neither controversial, nor political for a change. Whew!
It's simply lovely. My friend Andrea makes beautiful things and shows them on her craft blog, Rooks, Paper, Scissors. Check it out!

101 Things Update
I haven't update my 101 list in a while.
Here's what I've accomplished so far:
4. Go on a marriage retreat.
Not as long as I would have liked, but we did go to an all day marriage retreat in February at Harvest Rock. It was great!
9. Teach Meg and Israel to read.
I am happy to report that Meg and Israel are finally reading on their own. Yea! Now the fun is mini-spelling bees! Great fun!
10. Grow an herb garden.
In May my best friend gave me her herb garden before she moved to Canada with her new hubby. I grew it successfully for almost a year. Now, unfortunately it has died from neglect when I went to Mongolia. I'm sorry, Mary!
13. Watch The Passion Of The Christ again.
I watched it Good Friday 2007.
14. Go to Mongolia.
Was blessed to go in April. And now I'm busily getting ready to go again in just a few days!
19. Send a package of goodies to my girls in Mongolia.
I took my packages in April and hand-delivered them. That's even better!
28. Potty train Captain.
He potty-trained himself in September, right before he turned 2!
29. Can something.
I made zesty pickled garlic. It was GREAT!
42. Have a tea party.
Had a lovely outdoor tea for MaryBeth's bridal shower last May.
43. Observe lent at least once.
We did this year! I gave up sugar for lent, which was far more challenging than I thought it would be! And the kids each collected money for their favorite charities.
50. Go to midnight mass on Christmas at least once.
I went to Mass with my friend Jenee this past Christmas. It was lovely. I just may make a tradition of it.
51. Buy a new rolling pin.
My midwife, Brenda, having read my list, lovingly bought me a new rolling pin. I was excited; Gana, perplexed as to why anyone would be excited about a rolling pin.
60. Take the kids to a Children’s Museum.
We first went to the California Science Center for Israel's birthday last year. We liked it so much we've been back twice!
62. Get my own guitar.
God fulfilled this one! A few months ago a friend gave me a beautiful classical guitar. Now for actually learning how to play......
65. Serve food at a soup kitchen.
It was the final event of the 30 Hour Famine!
66. Have a slumber party with Meg.
We had a fun time at her birthday party last year.
67. Ride a carousel.
Last March--just three weeks before Ihbeleg was born--I rode the carousel at the Santa Monica Pier.
70. Watch Citizen Cane.
Done last May. Gana fell asleep.
78. Get a new bonsai tree.
My friend TJ blessed me with a bonsai tree last March!
79. Buy a fondue pot.
Gana gave me a fondue pot for Christmas last year. It's entertainment and eating! Love it!
83. Read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.
91. Play in the rain and splash in the puddles at least once.
Pictures here.
97. Make or buy a chore chart for my kids.
November 2006. We don't use it as much as I thought we would (or as much as we should).
Fifty-seven to go!

Captain on babies....
I was showing pictures from a book of a baby at 8 and 9 weeks gestation to the kids.
Me: This is what the baby probably looks like.
Captain: No, I think this is not a baby. I think this is a dinosaur. And this one over here, is a fish.
